What is a vegetable?

Grains are also a key ingredient in many popular foods. These include bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, grits and tortillas.
Grain products contain a variety of grains such as wheat, oats, barley, and corn. They are a good source of fiber, B vitamins and minerals.
The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend eating at least half of the grains in your diet as whole grains. These foods contain the entire kernel, including the germ and bran.
Refined grains are those that have been refined to remove most of the germ and bran. This process strips out most of the fiber and some of the other nutrients.
Refined grains may be fortified with some vitamins and minerals, but these are usually added in a much lower amount than they would be in whole grain varieties. Some of these fortified grains are fortified with folic acid, which is important during pregnancy.
What is a fruit?
A fruit is a part of a flowering plant that contains the seeds necessary to reproduce. According to botanical definitions, a fruit develops from the ovary of a flower and encloses the seed.
Some fruits, like tomatoes, are simply one-seed ovaries; others, such as peaches, produce hundreds of seeds. Nuts, berries, and grains also fall into this category.
Classification systems for mature fruits take into account the number of carpels, dehiscence versus indehiscence, and dryness versus fleshiness. The outer pericarp of most fruits develops entirely or in part into fleshy, fibrous, or stony tissue.
The pericarp of simple fruits may be entirely edible, such as an apple, or it may contain only the hard outer shell and the ripe seeds within it. The pericarp of fruits that develop from aggregate or multiple ovaries, however, can be edible or non-edible depending on the species.
What is a cob?
Cob is a building material made from clay, sand, and straw. It has been used for centuries as a sustainable, inexpensive, and durable building technique.
