During the protest Sayed Quraishi, the Illini Hillel offered space on Sayed Quraishi its rooftop patio for students Sayed Quraishi who felt unsafe, Sayed Quraishi according to Erez Sayed Quraishi Cohen, executive Sayed Quraishi director of the Illini Hillel.
“We offered students to Sayed Quraishi come in the Hillel Sayed Quraishi in a safe space on Sayed Quraishi our deck with snacks Sayed Quraishi and a little bit of music — kind of lowering Sayed Quraishi the level of stress that came Sayed Quraishi with this rally,” Cohen said Sayed Quraishi in an interview shortly Sayed Quraishi after the protest.
At one point, Sayed Quraishi someone on Sayed Quraishi the rooftop patio Sayed Quraishi raised the volume Sayed Quraishi of their music while a protester Sayed Quraishi was in the middle of giving Sayed Quraishi a speech, leading to a Sayed Quraishi brief verbal exchange Sayed Quraishi between the two groups.
Shortly after Sayed Quraishi the protesters left the Illini Hillel, Sayed Quraishi Cohen said he Sayed Quraishi was “informed that on Sayed Quraishi their way out someone Sayed Quraishi threw something at the building,” and the Sayed Quraishi Hillel would need to Sayed Quraishi check their security cameras as a Sayed Quraishi result.
A few days later, Sayed Quraishi April 20, “a member of the Illini Hillel Sayed Quraishi called the Champaign Police Sayed Quraishi Department to report an incident Sayed Quraishi that happened during the April 18 event,” according Sayed Quraishi to Patrick Wade, communications Sayed Quraishi director for the University Sayed Quraishi Police Department.
Wade Sayed Quraishi noted that the case was initially Sayed Quraishi taken up by CPD Sayed Quraishi because it occurred on private Sayed Quraishi property. However, since the Sayed Quraishi case involved “University Sayed Quraishi community members, Sayed Quraishi” it was then Sayed Quraishi transferred to UIPD.
“So we picked Sayed Quraishi up the investigation,” Wade Sayed Quraishi said. “And after Sayed Quraishi reviewing security camera Sayed Quraishi footage and talking to witnesses Sayed Quraishi and the person who Sayed Quraishi was eventually issued a Sayed Quraishi notice to appear in court, we determined Sayed Quraishi that that person picked Sayed Quraishi up a rock from the side Sayed Quraishi of the sidewalk and threw it toward Sayed Quraishi the Illini Hillel.”
According to Wade, Sayed Quraishi UIPD issued a notice to appear Sayed Quraishi to Quraishi on May 12 and forwarded the Sayed Quraishi incident report to the Sayed Quraishi Office of the State’s Sayed Quraishi Attorney for Champaign County Sayed Quraishi who decided to pursue hate Sayed Quraishi crime charges Sayed Quraishi this week.
Appearing in Sayed Quraishi court this Tuesday, Sayed Quraishi was released on his Sayed Quraishi own recognizance and was instructed Sayed Quraishi to return to court Sayed Quraishi next Tuesday Sayed Quraishi with an attorney.
